Fair Trade Ways

Ammanford Fairtrade Group has  received £500 funding from Fair Trade Wales to develop the idea of Fair Trade Ways in Wales.
With support from the County Council's Countryside team we are finalising a route for an official waymarked Fair Trade Way from Ammanford to Carmarthen via Llandeilo. When all agreed we will be able to organise an official inaugural walk of what we expect to be the first waymarked Fair Trade Way in Wales. Hopefully Amman Valley Pupils will be able to create a leaflet for this walk.

As well as the public leaflet for the walk, we will be producing a website leaflet for campaigners in other areas to use, showing examples of how campaign groups can use the idea of Fair Trade Ways in their own communities

Other ideas for local walks we could use as examples;

·         Ammanford Nursery's walk from their school to the Co-Op, looking around the store for Fairtrade goods.

·         "Beating The Bounds"  - a Fairtrade walk around Ammanford  town's boundaries.

·          A train journey up to Llandrindod highlighting ARRIVA's Fairtrade hot drinks trolley.

·         A walk to the Botanic Gardens, or a Fairtrade Trail around the gardens.

Llwybrau Masnach Deg

Mae Grwp Masnach Deg Rhydaman wedi derbyn £500 oddi wrth Cymru Masnach Deg i ddatblygu’r syniad o Llwybrau masnach Deg yng Nghymru.

Gyda chefnogaeth tim Adran Gwledig y Cyngor Sir rydym wrthi yn gorffen Llwybr Masnach Deg wedi ei chyfeirbwyntio o Rhydaman i Gaerfyrddin gan fynd trwy Llandeilo. Pan fyd dy trefniadau i gyd wedi gorffen byddwn yn trefnu taith agoriadol i lansio’r llwybr cyntaf Masnach Deg yng Nghymru. Gobeithir i ddisgyblion ysgol Dyffryn Aman drefnu taflenni i hysbysu’r llwybr. Yn ogystal a taflenni byddwn yn paratoi thai ar gyfer y rhyngrwyd er mwyn i  ymgyrchwyr eraill o amgylch Prydain eu defnyddio, gan ddangos sut gall grwpiau ddefnyddio’r syniad o Lwybrau masnach Deg yn eu cymunedau.

Mae gennym syniadau eraill ar gyfer teithiau hefyd. Sef

·         Taith Meithrin o Ysgol Feithrin Rhydaman i’r Co-Op, gan edrych o amgylch y siop am nwyddau Masnach Deg

·         Ar hyd y Ffin – taith masnach Deg o amgylch ffin tref  Rhydaman

·         Siwrnai Tren i Llandrindod – gan rhoi sylw i “trolley” diodydd twym Mansach Deg ARRIVA

·         Taith masnach Deg o amgylch Gerddi Botaneg Cenedlaethol Cymru.

Cotton farmers need our help

I WAS disappointed to learn that, every day, cotton farmers in Africa are being forced out of business because they cannot compete against the $7bn in subsidies EU cotton farmers have received in the past 10 years.

When we put on our cotton socks do we spare a thought about where the cotton was grown or the effort that has gone into growing it?
Farmers in Africa are telling us that they do not want handouts, they just want a level playing field for trading their goods.Fair Trade Wales has launched a Wales-wide response to help the poorest farmers in the world.
The Fair Trade movement wishes to see a CAP regime that is consistent with other EU policies on development and takes into account impacts on marginalised producers and workers in poor countries – and the people of Wales can help make this happen.

If you are interested in finding out more, and would like to write to your MEP, please get in touch.

Hi Ammanford Fairtrade supporters,

Thanks to everyone in Ammanford who got involved with decorating the pieces of bunting. Over 130,000 flags were collected from around the UK.

Below is a message from Adam Gardner, Campaigns Officer of the Fairtrade Foundation,  and a link to a special film being launched on World Fair Trade Day.
Remember to let us know of any Fairtrade events you are holding - So we can help publicise them or just to include in our next application for Fairtrade Town status.

AMMANFORD FAIRTRADE BANANA SPLIT

A large number of supporters of Fairtrade gathered at Ammanford’s Arcade on Friday 11 March to take part in what is now an annual event – the Giant Fairtrade Banana Split. This is the third time we have held the event during Fairtrade Fornight and this years was even better than last year.
To start we had to lay out the tables along the arcade , then put the guttering on top. After lining the guttering with aluminium foil we were ready to put on the bananas. This was done by members of Ammanford’s local chapels and Christian Youth Groups.
Once the ice cream, cream and chocolate sauce had been added everyone was given a spoon and after Paul Griffiths announced that the banana split was ready for eating everyone tucked in!
There was also a stall selling Red Nose merchandise in aid of Comic Relief which is held next Friday 18th March.

BANANA SPLIT MASNACH DEG

Nos Wener 11 Mawrth, 2011 daeth criw da i'r Arcade i gymryd rhan yn y Banana Split Masnach Deg  enfawr. Dyma'r trydydd blwyddyn i ni gynnal y banana split ac reodd eleni yn well nag un y llynedd.
I ddechrau roedd angen gosod y byrddau ar hyd yr arcade, yna y cafnau. Roed angen leinio'r cafn gyda ffoil aliminiwm.
Wedi hyn daeth pobl ifanc y capeli a clybiau ieuenctid cristnogol y dref i dorri'r bananas a'u gosod ar hyd y cafn. Y peth nesaf i wneud oedd rhoi'r hufen ia, hufen a saws siocled ar y banana split.
Erbyn 6.15 roedd popeth yn barod i'w fwyta. Cafodd pawb lwy ac ar ol i Paul Griffiths ddweud ewch dechreuodd pawb i fwyta.
Yn ogystal roedd stondin yn gwerthu nwyddau ar gyfer diwrnod Y Trwynau Coch sydd i'w gynnal nos Wenere nesaf.

Hi Everyone, and Happy Fairtrade Fortnight!

Also : Lots of schools and groups have been unable to get any fairtrade cotton bunting as the demand has been so great that the fairtrade foundation ran out of stock (over 40 miles of bunting!). I have one pack which I am dividing up among local groups who want to get involved in the world record attempt for the longest strip of bunting ever. If anyone wants a piece, let me know.

Feel free to pass this message on to anyone you think might be interested.

Thanks!

Fair Trade Fortnight in Carmarthenshire SCHOOLS - 2011

To start Fair Trade Fortnight in Carmarthenshire with a bang, Wyn Williams the Head of Education Services will be raising the first Fair Trade flag to be awarded to a primary school in the county at Llanddarog primary school.

The School meals service will be playing their part in the celebrations and special Fair Trade puddings will be available in primary schools
The theme of Fair Trade fortnight this year is “cotton”. The Fair Trade Foundation have published a School Action Guide which can be found at the web address below
http://www.fairtrade.org.uk/includes/documents/cm_docs/2010/s/schools_action_guide_insert_f14_2011.pdf

Cotton Bunting

This Fair Trade Fortnight, one of the many ways to show off about Fair Trade will be to paint, draw or sew a piece of Fair Trade cotton bunting to express what Fair Trade means to you. We then want people to get loud and proud by hanging the bunting in prominent places that will get lots of attention – like your local event, in your shop or somewhere more public.
When Fairtrade Fortnight's over, we're going to stitch them all together in an attempt to break the world record for the longest continual piece of bunting to help tell more people about how Fairtrade cotton protects the livelihoods of cotton farmers in West Africa and India.
