How fair are you?

Our research says that 99% of us claim we're fair 'most of the time'. So until 12 October, we're putting that to the test with The Great British Fairness Debate and asking the nation, 'Are we really as fair as we think we are?'
So why not take the test at fairtrade.org.uk/befair and find out?
We're running The Great British Fairness Debate, and asking the UK to make a pledge to buy Fairtrade, by raising awareness of how important it is not only to think fair, but be fair. When you consciously choose Fairtrade products you’re changing the lives of the farmers and workers who produce them.

Take the test, make a Fairtrade pledge and enter into the prize draw for a chance to win some fabulous Fairtrade goodies!

So, what are you waiting for? Show the UK just how fair you are.

Carmarthenshire Fair Trade Way extends west!

Phil Broadhurst receiving the Fairtrade Foundation's Most Creative Campaign Award for work on the Carmarthenshire Fair Trade Way from James Mwai, Head of Fairtrade Africa and Elen Jones, Head of Fair Trade Wales.

Fairtrade campaigners from across Carmarthenshire are joining together as they take part in the inaugural walk of the Carmarthen to Whitland extension of the Carmarthenshire Fair Trade Way on Wednesday 9th July.

The walk extends the route pioneered last June which went from Ammanford to Carmarthen via Llandeilo.

The Carmarthenshire Fair Trade Way is part of a UK wide network of paths linking Fairtrade Towns, schools, shops and community centres. The Carmarthenshire route currently joins up with a route to Swansea, and will soon be extending westwards through Haverfordwest and on to St David's.

Staff from local Co-Operative and OXFAM stores will be joining the walk, as will various schools along the way.

Walkers and supporters will gather at The Tea Shop in Carmarthen Park from 9am, ready to set off at 9.30am. Staff and children from Johnstown Primary School will walk as far as their school, where they will then have a meeting with the Head of Fair Trade Wales, Elen Jones. The walkers will then continue on to Whitland, with stops for a Fairtrade lunch at Llangynog Village Hall and a Fairtrade Afternoon Tea at The Gate in St Clears, before finishing at The Co-Operative store in Whitland.

The walkers' weary feet will then be treated with Fairtrade foot lotion donated by LUSH.
Walk organiser Phil Broadhurst said : "Last year's walk won the Fairtrade Foundation's award for Most Creative Campaign of the Year. We're delighted to be continuing with this fantastic way of engaging local communities in the campaign for Fair Trade. What I particularly like about the Fair Trade Way is how it involves so many people right across the community; people from schools, pensioner groups, businesses, community groups and individuals are all coming together to support people around the world who need Fair Trade to be able to afford basic access to water, schools, or health centres."

Anyone wanting to join the walk, or wanting more information, can contact Phil on 01269 596933. 07580383598

Fairtrade supporting Commonwealth Games Baton

There was a big Fairtrade presence as the Commonwealth Games baton came to Ammanford.

The town's Fairtrade Group handed out Fairtrade bananas from the town's Co-Operative store to the crowds gathered to welcome the baton.

The International Day at The Amman Centre also saw local Fair Trade shops, Bertams and Harmony, selling products sourced from Commonwealth countries, and children coloured in flags in support of the Commonwealth countries which have Fairtrade farmers.

Commonwealth Games mascot Clyde even visited the Fairtrade Group's stall, and helped make a Fairtrade smoothie on iSmooth's bicycle powered smoothie maker.

The Commonwealth Games, hosted this year by Glasgow, which is a Fairtrade City, have followed the lead of the London Olympics in their support for Fairtrade. All bananas, tea, coffee and sugar supplied to visitors, staff and athletes at the Games will be Fairtrade.

Phil Broadhurst, from Ammanford Fairtrade Group, was delighted at the way the group were able to mark the visit of the baton to Ammanford, which became the first Fairtrade Town in Wales back in 2002. "It was a great opportunity to celebrate the Commonwealth Games' commitment to Fairtrade, and to recognise Ammanford's continuing commitment to helping farmers and producers around the world get a fair price for their goods."

Supporting Fairtrade in Fair Weather or Foul!

Over fifty committed Fairtrade supporters braved the rain on Saturday to join the Fair Trade Way walk from iSmooth community cafe in College Street, Ammanford, up to the new Activity Centre in Garnswllt.

The walk, organised to mark World Fair Trade Day, was one of hundreds of events organised across six continents.

Many of the walkers were from 2nd Ammanford Scout, Cub and Beaver groups, some as young as 6. A group of Year 8 girls from Amman Valley School also used the walk to raise money to fund Health Checks for Mothers and children through the Oxfam Unwrapped scheme.

At the end of the walk, The Activity Centre's cafe did a roaring trade in Fairtrade Hot Chocolate and Fairtrade Pasta lunches, and Ammanford Fair Trade shops, Harmony and Bertram's had stalls selling their Fair Trade crafts. There were also a range of Fairtrade awareness raising stalls and activities, including a Treasure Hunt for the younger walkers who still had energy enough to run around.

Walk organiser, Phil Broadhurst, said : "The theme of this year's World Fair Trade Day celebrations was Fair Trade People, and the day fitted brilliantly into that; showing the best of people in many different lights. It was also a fantastic advert for the power of volunteering. The walk and event was organised by volunteers from Ammanford Fairtrade Town Group. All the Activity Centre staff were volunteers. And the Scout leaders are volunteers. The age range on the walk also made it feel like a real community event."

As well as being an enjoyable walk and event, the serious points behind the day, of promoting Fairtrade and helping people in need around the world, were not forgotten. Ammanford became the first Fairtrade Town in Wales in 2002 and has consistently led the way in campaigning for fairer trade and encouraging people to buy Fairtrade products, which guarantee the producers of those products a fair price. The Fairtrade premium also helps communities pay for schools, health centres, wells, or whatever else they need to improve their basic living conditions.

Cefnogi Masnach Deg drwy Law neu Hindda

Dydd Sadwrn 10 Mai wnaeth dros hanner cant o gefnogwyr Masnach Deg fentro allan yn y glaw i ymuno â'r daith gerdded Ffordd Masnach Deg o gaffi cymunedol iSmooth yn Stryd y Coleg , Rhydaman , i’r  Ganolfan Weithgareddau newydd yn Garnswllt .

Roedd y daith, a drefnwyd i nodi Diwrnod Masnach Deg y Byd , yn un o gannoedd o ddigwyddiadau ar draws chwe chyfandir. Daeth  llawer o'r cerddwyr  o Glwb Sgowtiaid Rhydaman , grwpiau Cub a Beaver , gyda  rhai mor ifanc â 6 . Defnyddiodd grŵp o ferched Blwyddyn 8 o Ysgol Dyffryn Aman y daith i godi arian i ariannu Gwiriadau Iechyd i Famau a phlant trwy'r cynllun Oxfam “ Unwrapped”.

Ar ddiwedd y daith, roedd caffi y Ganolfan Weithgareddau yn brysur ofnadwy yn gwerthu  Siocled Poeth a chinio Pasta Masnach Deg. Hefyd roedd siopau Masnach Deg Rhydaman , Harmony a Bertram gyda stondinau stondinau yn  gwerthu eu crefftau Masnach Deg. Yn ogystal roedd amrywiaeth o stondinau a gweithgareddau eraill yn codi ymwybyddiaeth o Fasnach Deg , gan gynnwys Helfa Drysor ar gyfer cerddwyr iau oedd gyda digon o egni ar ol wedi’r cerdded.

Meddai, Phil Broadhurst, trefnydd y daith, : "Thema dathliadau Diwrnod Masnach Deg y Byd eleni oedd Pobl Masnach Deg , ac roedd y diwrnod yn cyd fynd yn wych gyda hynny, gan ddangos y gorau o bobl mewn nifer o wahanol ffyrdd. Roedd hefyd yn hysbyseb gwych i'r pŵer o wirfoddoli . Cafodd y daith a’r digwyddiad ei drefnu gan wirfoddolwyr o Grŵp Masnach Deg Rhydaman. Roedd y staff yn y Ganolfan Weithgareddau yn wirfoddolwyr ac mae'r arweinwyr Sgowtiaid yn wirfoddolwyr. Roedd ystod oedran y cerddwyr  ar y daith hefyd yn ei gwneud hi deimlo fel digwyddiad cymunedol go iawn. " Yn ogystal â bod yn ddigwyddiad pleserus a thaith hyfryd, ni aeth pwyntiau difrifol y tu ôl i’r dydd, sef hyrwyddo Masnach Deg a helpu pobl mewn angen o gwmpas y byd , yn angof.
Sefydlwyd Rhydaman fel tref Masnach Deg cyntaf yng Nghymru yn 2002 ac mae wedi arwain y ffordd yn gyson drwy ymgyrchu ar gyfer masnach decach ac annog pobl i brynu cynnyrch Masnach Deg , sy'n gwarantu cynhyrchwyr y cynhyrchion hynny bris teg . Mae'r premiwm Masnach Deg hefyd yn helpu cymunedau i dalu am ysgolion, canolfannau iechyd , ffynhonnau , neu beth bynnag arall y mae angen i wella eu hamodau byw sylfaenol .
