FAIRTRADE WALES CONFERENCE

Ammanford fairtrade campaigners joined around 150 delegates from across the country at the Fairtrade Wales Conference at Trinity College in Carmarthen on Saturday (6th June). In the photo we see Amy Westlake, Pete Westlake, Hannah Reed (Fairtrade Foundation), Chris Dean, Phil Broadhurst.

Ammanford Fairtrade Group member Chris Dean was among those who were able to speak directly via satellite link up to a fairtrade cocoa producer in Ghana from the Kuapa Kokoo co-operative who help make the fairtrade Divine and Dubble chocolate bars.

The day was one of celebration as Carmarthenshire had just heard that it had gained Fairtrade County status. Councillor Pam Palmer was presented with the status certificate by the Fairtrade Foundation's Hannah Reed, who also met representatives from Ammanford Fairtrade Group and thanked them for getting the Fairtrade Towns movement going in Wales. Ammanford became the first Fairtrade Town in Wales back in 2002.

Fairtrade is a trading system which guarantees producers a fair price for their products and provides social premiums to help producers' communities build better schools, healthcare and clean water facilities. Anyone who would like to get involved with the Ammanford Fairtrade Group should contact Phil Broadhurst on 01269 596933.
